Maserati: new product plan to be presented soon (last chance?)

Advertising

For MaseratiFor the time being, we prefer not to share our monthly registration figures with you. And with good reason: they've become so low as to be embarrassing for a brand with such a prestigious reputation. Since Maserati entered the Stellantis era, it's been a long tunnel of questionable decisions, unclear positioning and lost bets.

The promise of an electric 100 % range? It had the merit of existing... on paper. In reality, it led to higher prices, falling demand and almost total marketing silence. The result? A brand on life support, with rumors of resale to another manufacturer and hopes of a rebirth constantly postponed. But things may finally be changing.

A new product plan is imminent

Jean-Philippe Imparato announced it in May: an update on the Italy plan will be unveiled in June. Here we are, already in mid-June, and according to our information, Maserati's new product plan will be presented by mid-July 2025. A crucial announcement, which could well define whether the brand still has a future or whether it will continue to sink into oblivion.

The broad outlines of this plan are beginning to take shape. Forget the all-electric strategy: as with the other brands in the Stellantis group, the return of hybrid powertrains is a foregone conclusion. And the Nettuno V6, Maserati's technical pride and joy, should be retained and electrified, a way of remaining competitive with German and Italian rivals (and will even be used by Alfa Romeo for future Quadrifoglio models).

A clearer, better thought-out range

Here's what the Maserati range could look like in the months and years to come:

  • MC20 and MC20 Cielo An update is planned for the supercar, which could receive a high-performance V6 hybrid.
  • Grecale the still-new compact SUV is set to continue its career.
  • Levante A new, more modern and better positioned model is in the pipeline.
  • Quattroporte The long-awaited comeback of the large Italian sedan in a more assertive version.
  • Granturismo and Grancabrio The recently renewed "Grand Tourisme" packages will complete the range.

With a concentrated range, V6 hybrid engines, prices realigned with the market, and communication finally on track, Maserati clearly has a card to play. Imagine an MC20 hybrid with power comparable to that of a Ferrari 296 GTB... but at a slightly lower price (and more beautiful?). The potential is there.

When?

Everything should be decided between two key dates:

  • The official appointment of Antonio Filosa as the new CEO of Stellantis on June 23, 2025,
  • And the presentation of the Group's half-yearly results, scheduled for July 24, 2025.

Suffice it to say that the niche is tight. Will this product plan mark a turning point? Or will it be just another in a series of failed relaunches? Because if this one doesn't work out, we have to wonder how many chances Maserati really has left.

  1. Maserati will founder until it brings back the V8. Mark my words. When you're paying Maserati prices, or the prices they want to charge, you want the sound of the V8, not the 6. It also fits Maseratis identity. Let Alfa have the V6 and stop trying to parts-bin a $200k car. The old gran turismo still holds some value because of its V8.
