The new Lancia Gamma is unveiled... and looks just like a well-known model!

Its return had been rumoured for years. This time, it's here: the first spy photos of the future Lancia Gamma are starting to circulate. Still heavily camouflaged, the model can nevertheless be guessed at... and already confirms several key elements of this future pillar of the Italian brand's renaissance. Yes, the Gamma won't be a sedan. It will be an SUV.

A 4.6-metre SUV to support the Ypsilon

Since its official launch, we've known that the Gamma would complete the range alongside the new Lancia Ypsilon. Spyshots now confirm its silhouette and, above all, its proportions. At around 4.6 meters in length, the Gamma clearly fits into the family SUV segment. It will be offered with 100 % electric engines, as well as a hybrid internal combustion engine, proving that the Lancia Ypsilon is a true family SUV. Lancia targets a broad customer base in the European market.

Inside, although no photos have yet been released, everything suggests that the ambience will reflect the “cosy” spirit inaugurated by the new Ypsilon. We can logically imagine the presence of the SALA multimedia system, the centerpiece of Lancia's on-board experience. But it's the exterior lines that are attracting the most attention today.

An unmistakable profile

From the side, it's hard not to notice a certain familiarity. The proportions, the roofline, the volumes... everything is clearly reminiscent of a Peugeot 3008. The visual kinship is obvious, and that's hardly surprising in a Stellantis group that shares its platforms to a large extent.

At the front, on the other hand, Lancia asserts its identity. The light signature follows that of the new Ypsilon, creating an immediate coherence within the future range.

As for the rear end, it should mark an evolution. A new light signature, already teased in the past, will further differentiate this SUV from other Group models.

In the end, this Gamma appears to be a clear-cut synthesis: an SUV with proportions close to those of the 3008, a face inspired by the Ypsilon, and an original stern to assert the brand's new stylistic era.

A risky bet for Lancia?

This positioning is reminiscent of the criticism received by the new Ypsilon. Many pointed out its similarities to the Peugeot 208, from which it is technically derived. With the Gamma, Lancia could well be exposed to similar remarks. The challenge will be to impose a genuine visual and emotional identity despite a common base. The major difference this time may well lie elsewhere.

Unlike the Ypsilon, which is produced in Spain, the Gamma will be produced in Italy. It will roll off the production lines of the Melfi plant, alongside the future Jeep Compass. A strategic industrial choice for Lancia, which is strengthening its national roots as part of its recovery.

Presentation expected in 2026

According to initial reports, the official presentation could take place before the summer of 2026. The first press tests are then scheduled for autumn of the same year. The Lancia Gamma looks set to be a key part of the brand's revival. It remains to be seen whether this SUV will be able to overcome its déjà-vu appearance to win over new customers. As a reminder Lancia ended 2025 with 11,591 registrations.

    • Karuk, why do you want them to share the same silhouettes just because they share the same factory?
A factory can assemble 208s with 2008s, as long as they have the same platform, but they have nothing in common in terms of silhouette.

  1. A sure-fire failure, apparently the fiascos of the Chrisler-based Lancia Thema and the Peugeot-based Ypsilon didn't teach them a lesson! 🤔

  2. Another of Tavares' secret clones.
There's sure to be an offer with the famous Puretech engine, in short, a future commercial flop that Stellantis has made a specialty of.

  3. Aaah Stellantis... These guys are definitely unstoppable.

Impossible to really come up with a brand-specific design? Are they just capable of low-cost rebadging?

Here we take the unfortunate proportions of the 3008, stick on the same rear-view mirrors as all the Stellantis range since 2021 and a few gimmicks taken from the Ypsilon, which was obviously a predictable failure, stick on a PureToc and roll my hen?

Call me when there's a serious new model in the house...

    • And how can an Audi, Seat or Skoda be anything other than a rebadged Volkswagen? The VAG group is definitely unstoppable.
At Audi, apart from 3 or 4 RS models, everything else is VW for snobs.

      • If you can't see any more difference between an Octavia, a Golf and an A3, or a Tiguan and a Macan, than between a 208 and a Corsa or Ypsilon, where only 2/3 elements are distinctive, I can't help you. But you're right to mention RS (and even S) models, which are totally non-existent on the DS/Peugeot/Lancia side...

        • The difference between an Audi A1 and a VW Polo, between a VW Golf and an Audi A3, is hard to find, apart from the trim, finishes and logos. And between a Skoda Fabia and an A1, apart from the fact that Audi looks more chic?
It's true to say that Lancia borrows a Peugeot base, but it's exactly the same for the Volkswagen group.

          • Yes but it doesn't change anything to have the same platform, we're talking about drawing models of brands that all use the same mirrors, that's enough!!!!

Until proven otherwise, the cars have been reliable for 3 years!?
The buzz is all about pre-2022 models.
To be confirmed in the future.

  4. The Lancia Ypsilon may be based on a 208, but it's no less attractive, well finished and, what's more, fun to drive. With a real range of engines other than PureTech or electric ones, it would be really interesting.
As for the future Gamma based on the 3008, it makes sense. It'll depend on the engines on offer, but Lancia's design could be seductive (even if I'm not a fan of SUVs).

    • Tastes and colors. I know the 208 well (and the Corsa) and I went to see the Ypsilon (I used to have Lancias). So yes, they've made it all up ... but nothing is really serious. You really get the impression of a 208 with a thick coat of foundation. In short, it's quickly disappointing unless you like the superficial.

      • Personally, I agree with Stanislas. I've tried the Ypsilon in 1.2L and electric versions, and it's a good city car, comfortable, easy to handle and pleasant to drive. It's just a shame to think that it has a French engine and is made in Spain. Apart from that, it's a good car and I prefer its design (in black) to a Peugeot or an Opel.

        • Do you know whether it might one day be fitted with an Italian engine? Assuming that the Fire and Multijet engines are replaced? The only thing stopping me from buying it is the puretech engine. The HF Line version in black with an Italian engine... that would be perfect!

          • I don't know. There are rumors that the Firefly will gradually replace the Puretech. If this rumor is validated, the question remains of the Lancia brand's future. Well, there's the return to rallying and the opening of new dealerships, but if sales plateau at those of a brand like Ferrari, it's hard to project oneself.

      • Well, it's quite simple: in the comments, he's the only one who likes her (and that's his right). Outside, everyone's against her... The statistics speak for themselves...

Now that Lancia is going out on a limb... Thanks who?
And that 2025 was a horrible year for the entire automotive world.
And it's the only one in a whole range.
          Sales aren't all that bad.
Many people think the Ypsilon is a great success, and it's an Italian design!

  5. It's a legacy of Tavares, who, after the (relative) success of Peugeot's move upmarket (thanks especially to Gilles Vidal and his fabulous pencil strokes), set out to peugeotize all the group's generalist brands.
And the best part is that after 5 years at Renault, where the Scénic and Rafale bear a striking resemblance to products from Sochaux, the same Gilles Vidal has been given the task of restoring a strong identity to every Stellantis brand outside the US.
    To be continued....

  6. Yes, and the Italians have a real sense of beauty about them. This little Lancia has much more class and chic than the Peugeot that matches it.
