A rare Lancia Stratos HF Stradale for auction, well below its value (and signed by two rally drivers)

Rally fans and collectors of iconic cars, here's an opportunity that's sure to get people talking. A Lancia The 1974 Stratos HF Stradale, one of the 492 examples built to homologate the model in Group 4 of the World Rally Championship, is currently on sale on the American "Bring a Trailer" platform. And its current price is surprisingly low for a car of this calibre, especially as it bears the signatures of two rallying legends: Sandro Munari and Miki Biasion.

An icon born for victory

Designed by Marcello Gandini at Bertone and based on the spectacular Stratos Zero concept, the Lancia Stratos is a legend on four wheels. Thanks to its short chassis, ultra-light fiberglass body and 190hp 2.4-liter Ferrari Dino V6 engine, it crushed the competition in rallying, winning three consecutive World Rally Championship titles in 1974, 1975 and 1976.

The model offered for sale, chassis no. 001515, has a singular history: originally delivered to Japan, it was imported to the USA in 2015, where it was stored for several years before benefiting from a complete restoration between 2022 and 2024, billed at over $290,000 (around 265,000 euros). To date, it has clocked up just 69,000 kilometers, of which only 100 have been driven by the current owner.

Carefully restored to its original condition

The vehicle benefited from meticulous work: complete overhaul of the V6 engine, refurbishment of the Weber carburetors, overhaul of the electrical system, replacement of the battery, rebuilding of the suspension with Koni components, new brakes, as well as a faithful interior refresh.

The interior now features bucket seats in beige Alcantara, a black "mouse fur"-style fabric dashboard, red carpets and a wooden lever knob, all in an atmosphere faithful to the 70s. The presentation is completed by 14-inch Campagnolo golden magnesium wheels fitted with Pirelli Cinturato CN36.

The car comes with a Lancia Classiche certificate of authenticity, a certificate from Centro Storico Fiat, documentation of the work, the period brochure, and best of all: it is signed under the hood by the two champions Sandro Munari and Miki Biasion. In other words, this Stratos is no mere collector's item, but a genuine piece of world rallying history.

A surprisingly low price...

With one day to go before the end of the auction, the posted price is $333,000 (around 307,000 euros). A price well below today's standards for a restored Stratos HF Stradale, all the more so with such a clear history and signature. According to "Classic Analytics", equivalent models can fetch up to 483,000 euros on the collectors' market.

With its timeless lines, Ferrari engine, racing heritage and rarity, the Lancia Stratos HF Stradale remains one of the greatest myths of the Italian automobile. And when an example so well documented, restored and signed by two champions comes in at under €350,000, you have to wonder: is it a real bargain? Find out in a few hours, when the auction closes.
