On the streets of London, accustomed to supercars from all over the world, an appearance recently caused a traffic jam like no other. A Lamborghini Veneno Roadster, one of the rarest and most expensive models ever produced by the Italian brand, literally brought traffic to a standstill near Hyde Park. The owner? A Saudi prince. The price? Around $6.5 million.

The supercar, registered in Saudi Arabia, arrived directly by cargo plane. According to several corroborating sources, the car belongs to Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Farhan Al Saud, Saudi Minister of Culture and notorious art collector, famous for having acquired a painting for $450 million. By comparison, a Veneno seems almost... reasonable.

14 units worldwide, only 9 roadsters

Launched in 2013 to celebrate Lamborghini's 50th anniversary, the Veneno is based on the Aventador, but with an even more radical design. Its name, which means "venom" in Spanish, sets the tone: extreme aerodynamics, carbon-fiber bodywork and explosive performance.

Under the hood is a 6.5-litre naturally-aspirated V12delivering 750 hp and propelling the beast from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 secondswith a top speed of 355 km/h.

Only 14 copies of the Veneno were produced, including 9 in Roadster version. In other words, to come across it, even in London, is an automotive miracle.

The crowd goes wild

The appearance of this matte black Veneno on the streets of the British capital triggered a frenzy on social networks. Passers-by, tourists and enthusiasts immediately drew their smartphones, blocking traffic for a few selfies with the Italian monster.

In a city where Rolls-Royce, Bugatti and Ferrari are almost commonplace, the Veneno stole the show from whatever was on the road that day. Proof that Lamborghini's radical design remains unrivalled when it comes to turning heads.
