No stranger to exceptional cars and car shows, Jay Kay, the lead singer of Jamiroquai, recently found himself in a rather unexpected situation. Upon arriving at a British event behind the wheel of a stunning purple Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder, he was denied access through his usual entrance. It was a surprising turn of events for one of the UK’s most famous supercar collectors.
It's hard to go unnoticed behind the wheel of a Lamborghini purple, especially when your name is Jay Kay. The frontman of Jamiroquai recently attended the Bicester Scramble, a car meet held at the Bicester Motion site in Oxfordshire, England. Behind the wheel of his Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder, the singer seemed ready to join the many exceptional cars on display for the occasion.
But things didn't go as planned. Filmed by YouTuber AdamC3046, the footage shows the Lamborghini stopping at the entrance to the gathering, where several members of the organization approached the driver. After a brief exchange, Jay Kay was ultimately forced to turn around.
A purple Lamborghini that doesn't go anywhere
What happened to cause the singer to be turned away like that? Contrary to what some reactions suggest, it wasn't simply a ticket issue. When asked by Supercar Blondie, AdamC3046 explains that Jay Kay had used an entrance reserved for vehicles specially selected to be displayed in the main area of the event. This entrance generally requires special authorization and requires arriving early enough to facilitate traffic flow.
The singer is reportedly accustomed to using this entrance at similar times. This time, however, security personnel redirected him to another entrance leading to the exhibition areas and visitor parking lots. A notice posted by the organizers also specified that vehicles manufactured after 2001 were to use the general parking lot rather than the spaces reserved for classic cars. This rule could explain the situation—a situation that clearly did not sit well with Jay Kay.
A color reminiscent of the legendary Diablo from «Cosmic Girl»
For Lamborghini enthusiasts, the car Jay Kay chose is anything but ordinary. This Gallardo Spyder sports a purple paint job that immediately brings to mind another Italian car associated with the singer: the legendary purple Lamborghini Diablo SE30 from the «Cosmic Girl» music video, released in 1996.
So the Gallardo spotted in Bicester isn't that famous Diablo, but it continues the association between Jay Kay, Lamborghini, and that particularly eye-catching color.

Because Jay Kay’s passion for cars goes far beyond this Gallardo. Over the decades, the British singer has owned some of the most coveted Italian cars in history, including the Ferrari F40, F50, Enzo, and LaFerrari—the latter in a spectacular «Kermit» green configuration».
His garage has also housed a Ferrari 275 GTB/4, a rare 330 GT Vignale Shooting Brake, a Lamborghini Miura SV, and the famous Diablo SE30. Not to mention Porsches, classic Mercedes, and even an Aston Martin DB5 that appeared in «Goldfinger.» Jay Kay is said to have owned, at certain times, more than a hundred cars, although his collection changes regularly as he buys and sells vehicles.
And yet, even with such an impressive automotive pedigree, a purple Lamborghini and a celebrity behind the wheel aren’t always enough to get past the barriers at a car show.
