When Lamborghini tease on Instagram with a simple "Something special is in the works...", it's hard to imagine that the Italian automaker is about to associate one of its most extreme supercars with a public health cause. And yet, a few days later, a Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato in the colors of the Garfield, New Jersey police force officially made its appearance. The aim: to attract attention in the fight against the opioid crisis.
A Lamborghini like no other
The scene is set in the United States, far from Sant'Agata Bolognese. Thanks to a partnership between Lamborghini dealer Paramus and the Garfield Police Department, a 2023 Huracan Sterrato was made available to the local police. With an estimated value of almost $310,000, the supercar was not purchased by the police force. Dressed in a covering inspired by Garfield's patrol vehicles, incorporating the Garfield Boilermakers logo, the Sterrato even gets a blue light strip, reinforcing its official appearance. A first in the USA, and beyond, as this model becomes one of the most spectacular police vehicles ever seen.

"Outrun Opioids", an atypical but assertive initiative
Behind this Lamborghini is an initiative called "Outrun Opioids". Officially launched on December 17, 2025, the program aims to raise public awareness of the dangers of opioids, encourage prevention and facilitate access to help resources. The idea was born back in October, during discussions between Garfield police management and the Lamborghini Paramus team. It's a simple fact: to reach the public, especially young people, you need to grab their attention. And what could be more visible than a Lamborghini to start a conversation and break the taboo around addiction? The car is used exclusively for community events, youth programs and police events. It doesn't patrol, it doesn't chase anyone, and it's not involved in any repressive operations.
Beyond its spectacular image, the Huracan Sterrato also plays a concrete role. A QR code affixed to the bodywork enables direct contact with a 24-hour assistance service. It connects those concerned, or their loved ones, to real-time support provided by The Center for Alcohol and Drug Resources.

A Lamborghini Sterrato with a unique character
If this Huracan attracts so much attention, it's not just because of its livery. The Sterrato version occupies a special place in Lamborghini history. Thought of as a supercar capable of getting off the asphalt, it features a raised suspension, all-terrain tires and increased ground clearance, more suited to rough roads than the classic Huracan. Under the hood, the 5.2-liter naturally-aspirated V10 develops 640 hp.

An operation at no cost to the taxpayer
The Garfield police force insists that this initiative has come at no cost to the taxpayer. The car remains the exclusive property of Lamborghini Paramus, which has undertaken to make it available to the police until June 2026. On that date, the covering will be removed and the supercar will resume its career outside police circles. In the meantime, the Huracan Sterrato will take part in a number of events, starting with its first public appearance at the 37th PBA Toy Drive, a charity event held in New Jersey.
