There are Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, which are already rare, and then there’s this one. Underground Racing has just put a 2019 model up for sale that bears little resemblance to a standard SVJ under the hood. Its naturally aspirated V12 has succumbed to the temptation of forced induction, with a tuning package claimed to deliver up to 1,600 HP at the wheels. The price tag reflects that: $1.49 million.
The Lamborghini Aventador SVJ certainly didn’t need any help making an impression. In its stock configuration, its naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V12 engine produces 770 HP. But for Underground Racing, an American specialist in extreme modifications, that was clearly just a starting point.
Two turbochargers and a thoroughly redesigned V12
The most dramatic modification is immediately apparent when the rear body panels are removed. Two massive Precision Turbo turbochargers are mounted around the V12, accompanied by an impressive titanium piping system with a bluish sheen. Underground Racing claims 1,250 ch at the wheels with regular gasoline and up to 1,600 ch at the wheels with racing fuel.
And it's not just a matter of bolting two turbos onto the engine Lamborghini. The V12 has been fully tuned, featuring, among other things, billet aluminum connecting rods, specially designed forged pistons, and a balanced moving assembly. The intake system is also made of machined aluminum, while an air/water intercooler system is designed to keep temperatures under control.
The transmission had to undergo the same modifications. Underground Racing reports that it installed billet-machined gear ratios from first through seventh gear, as well as reinforced input and output shafts. The front and rear differentials have also been replaced with specialized components. A modified clutch and a custom flywheel round out the package. Engine management is handled by a MoTeC M1 ECU equipped with software specifically designed for the Aventador’s V12. Notably, the driver has access to four power maps and boost pressure control that adjusts based on the selected gear. In other words, the 1,600 HP aren’t simply sent to all four wheels without careful consideration.
A 2,365-kilometer SVJ worth nearly $1.5 million
Aesthetically, this SVJ retains its spectacular green color, paired with numerous carbon fiber elements and its massive rear wing. The interior is also instantly recognizable, with black upholstery accented by touches of green. The car has only 1,470 miles on the odometer, or approximately 2,365 km. Underground Racing also notes that the build comes with a two-year or 24,000-mile warranty, or approximately 38,600 km.
That leaves the price: $1,490,000. That’s a hefty sum for an Aventador SVJ, but the buyer certainly won’t be driving away in just any Lamborghini. With up to 1,600 HP at the wheels, this Italian supercar—modified by Underground Racing—delivers more than twice the power of the car as it rolls off the assembly line in Sant’Agata Bolognese.
