He sells his wrecked Lamborghini Revuelto for €600,000: the end of a long story of hard times

It's the end of a mechanical soap opera that has kept millions of car enthusiasts on the edge of their seats.
A few months ago, Mat Armstrong, the famous British YouTuber specializing in supercar restoration, treated himself to a Lamborghini Revuelto accidented for a sum defying all logic: around €260,000, compared with over €700,000 for a new one. On paper, the coup du siècle; in reality, a technological nightmare.

A supercar at half the price... but totally blocked

When Mat retrieves this Revuelto, it's unrecognizable: hood ripped off, front subframe bent, cooling system ripped open and, above all, a headache: the V12 hybrid system and its three electric motors blocked by an electronic safety device after the accident.

And after weeks of repairs, including replacement of the subframe, suspension and a multitude of components, it was impossible to get the car up and running. Even Lamborghini was officially contacted, declared the mission unfeasible without a transition to a concession... and a new £35,000 battery.

Against Lamborghini's advice, he goes for broke

Rather than give up, Mat races against the clock. He buys the battery, tinkers with the electronic control unit, fiddles with the safety system and, miraculously, the Revuelto briefly restarts. But the hybrid electronics remained capricious and unpredictable, and it finally took a trip to Lamborghini in Italy to definitively lift the lock. And the car runs again!

Road-trip to Monaco... and a surprise bill

To celebrate the rebirth of his Revuelto, Mat organizes a road-trip through Europe, heading for Monaco and then Pisa. The aim was to test the beast on the racetrack. But on the Levante track, the mechanics were a reminder of its fragility: a rear carbon-ceramic brake disc cracked in the heat. Result: €9,000 to replace this part.

All in all, Mat estimates that he invested almost £468,000 (around €550,000 including purchase price) to get this Revuelto back on the road. A risky gamble, not far from ruinous... and one that has definitely inoculated him against this generation of hybrid hypercars.

Revuelto goes on sale

In his latest video, Mat admits it: he has no attachment to this Lamborghini, too expensive to drive, too complex to maintain, and too risky to push to the limit. So he heads to the classified ads site Carwow for an express resale. In just a few clicks, the platform values the car at around £486,000 (around €570,000), buys it back, and will put it back on the market for a well-informed buyer.

Time will tell. Carwow will no doubt have no trouble finding an enthusiast willing to pay top dollar for a unique Revuelto V12 hybrid, but marked by a heavy accident and a high-profile in-house restoration.

For Mat Armstrong, the story is closing. And the lesson is that sometimes, even at half price, a Lamborghini can cost a lot more than expected.

  1. I think you are a breath man for taking it on and you are in my opinion brilliant at doing things that you do.
Good luck for the future and the sale then put it under your pillow and carry on.
