He buys the world's cheapest Lamborghini Murcièlago, the star of a movie: it's a disaster

Buying a Lamborghini Murcièlago is often a car enthusiast's dream. To acquire one for less than $100,000 is almost a miracle. But when it's also been used in Fast & Furious 8, it's even more exclusive. But what was supposed to be a good deal soon turned into a series of problems.

A Lamborghini film at 80,000 $: a bargain!

At the end of 2019, Freddy discovered that a 2003 Murcièlago that had been used in Fast & Furious 8 is for sale... for just 80,000 $. A bargain, considering that this model can easily be exchanged for double or even triple the price. But there's a catch: the car is in the UK, it's partially dismantled, and its condition is uncertain.

Rather than make the trip from the States, Freddy sends his London-based friend Sam to inspect the vehicle. And then everything changes.

As soon as he arrived, Sam was dismayed. This isn't a restoration, it's a nightmare:

  • The garish orange paint is poorly applied,
  • The front cover is secured with gate hinges.
  • The interior is a field of ruins: lacerated seats, missing plastics, missing carpets... and even cat hair everywhere.
  • The icing on the cake: the Lamborghini V12 engine has been replaced by a Jaguar V6, and the car starts with a Hyundai key.

The icing on the cake is that the Murcièlago is sold without official papers, with a modified chassis, missing parts and cobbled-together electronics... It's a far cry from the Italian dream.

Dubious seller

After making a deposit, Freddy learns that the seller wants to cancel the sale after all. It takes some hard bargaining for Sam to finally get the car back. He also manages to get his hands on a pallet of spare parts, obviously taken from another Murcièlago in the shoot. These include the original doors, windscreen, carbon fiber components and other accessories. The whole lot is sent to Florida, where Freddy discovers the real job site.

A restoration worthy of a film

Freddy doesn't give up. On the contrary: he documents every step on his YouTube channel. While he starts by cleaning the body and sorting the parts, he soon realizes that the car is far more modified than he imagined. Engine mounts have been cut, wiring harnesses are a nightmare, and every original part seems to have been replaced, modified or removed.

In spite of it all, he has achieved the impossible: the Murcièlago has been completely restored, faithful to its cinema version. Engine, paintwork, interior, wheels, bodywork... everything is restored or replaced. It rolls and roars like a real Lamborghini.

This restoration attracts the attention of the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. Considered one of the world's leading automotive museums, it is exhibiting Freddy's Lamborghini in its special collection. It's a crowning achievement for the YouTuber.

A cheap Lamborghini always hides something...

Buying a Lamborghini at bargain-basement prices, especially when it's been featured in a worldwide blockbuster, is anything but a guarantee of a good deal. This adventure has cost Freddy a lot of time, money and sweat... but it's also brought him a lot of views on his videos!
