In early May, on winding California Highway 9, a rare 2023 Lamborghini Huracán STO ended its run... on its roof. The spectacular accident occurred in Santa Cruz County, on a stretch of road popular with sports driving enthusiasts. Fortunately, both occupants suffered only minor injuries. But the scene that followed was surprising.
The supercar "pushed around" by the police
While the Lamborghini lying upside down on the pavement, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers didn't wait for the tow truck. Fearing that another driver might hit the wreck, they decided to push it themselves... with their patrol car. A video widely shared on social networks shows the Italian supercar being manhandled, dragged along the asphalt to clear the way.

One less Huracán STO
The Huracán STO (Super Trofeo Omologata) is an extreme model in the Lamborghini range. Lighter, stripped of all-wheel drive, it features a 640 hp naturally-aspirated V10 designed for the track. This crashed version was painted matt black, but the "STO" markings on the hood left little doubt as to its identity.

According to the images released by the police, the damage was extensive: carbon-fiber bodywork, scratches, perforations... and a completely flattened roof. Remember that almost 75 % of an STO's structure is made of carbon, a lightweight material, but expensive to repair.

The road is not a racetrack
The accident occurred on the upper part of HWY 9, a winding, high-altitude road often used by enthusiasts looking to escape the hustle and bustle of San Jose. But these narrow, rugged roads don't forgive speeding, even for the most powerful cars.
The police would like to reiterate the message: "This accident could have been avoided. PLEASE SLOW DOWN! Highway 9 is not a racetrack."
