The improbable delivery of a Lamborghini Sián at 3.2 million $, in a wooden crate in the middle of New York City

When it comes to Italian supercars, Lamborghini has never lacked daring. But what happened in January 2021 will be remembered as one of the most unlikely episodes in the brand's history: the arrival of a $3.2 million Lamborghini Sián FKP 37... delivered in the heart of New York, in a simple wooden crate.

The scene was in front of the prestigious Manhattan Motorcars dealership. That day, passers-by couldn't believe their eyes: a huge wooden crate dropped from a truck, handled by a forklift, and carefully placed on the sidewalk. Inside, not furniture or industrial machinery, but one of the rarest and most expensive supercars in the world.

Supercar out of the box

The video of the moment, filmed by Supercar YouTube star Heather, has gone viral. It shows the employees methodically removing the protective covers, dismantling the body and then removing the protective cover. Suddenly, the magic happens: a matte green flash, highlighted with golden accents, is revealed to viewers.

It was a Lamborghini Sián FKP 37 painted in Verde Gea (a unique matte green) with Oro Electrum (a metallic pinkish gold) accents, the very first to be delivered in the northeastern USA.

The Sián marked an important turning point in the history of the Italian brand:

  • under its hood, the legendary 774-hp, naturally-aspirated 6.5-liter V12,
  • supported by a supercapacitor providing an additional 34 hp,
  • for a total of 808 hp, making it the first Lamborghini V12 hybrid of its era.

Unlike today's hybrid cars, which rely mainly on lithium-ion batteries, in 2019 the Lamborghini Sián inaugurated a novel system based on a supercapacitor. Lighter and capable of recharging and delivering its energy instantly, it doesn't store much electric range but offers an immediate 34hp boost to accompany the V12. An ingenious solution, designed not to reduce consumption, but to punctually improve the supercar's performance and responsiveness.

Only 63 coupes and 19 roadsters were produced, making this New York scene even more exceptional. This model will provide much of the inspiration for the new Lamborghini Revuelto.

Four years later, this scene is still remembered by car enthusiasts. It illustrates the blend of extravagance and excess for which Lamborghini is renowned. While other brands deliver their models in hushed silence, the Sant'Agata Bolognese firm has succeeded in transforming a simple delivery into an unforgettable urban spectacle.
