It had been over a year since Fiat was keeping a tight lid on its future SUVs. But the veil is beginning to lift. A few days ago, carspotter KindelAuto caught a camouflaged prototype of the future Fiat Fastback SUV coupe in Sweden, revealing for the first time the model's profile in real-life conditions.
And the profile leaves little room for doubt: this is indeed a Fastback silhouette, a receding roofline very much in vogue on today's SUVs. The model looks far more ambitious than the Brazilian Fiat Fastback, with which it will share... only the name. Here's what we know about this future SUV coupe.
Code name F2X and SMART Car platform
This new SUV coupé, known internally as F2X, will be based on the SMART Car platform already used by the new Fiat Grande Panda.
Several engine variants are expected:
- A 1.2L 145 hp hybrid engine, not a 100 hp hybrid, the same as on the Fiat Grande Panda
- And, a 100 version % electric 113 hp
Prices should start from €20,000 for the non-hybrid 100 hp version, and around €25,000 for the 100 % electric version.
A very different Fastback from the Brazilian
Contrary to what its name might suggest, this new SUV will have no connection with Fiat Fastback launched in South America. It is based on a Fiat platform, with a Fiat engine. The new European (and worldwide) Fastback will be positioned above the Fiat Grande Panda in the range.
Production in Morocco, launch scheduled for 2026
Production of the future Fiat Fastback is planned at the Stellantis plant in Kénitra, Morocco, which is already ready to house the SMART Car platform. Start-up is scheduled for the spring of 2026, close to the date of Fiat's other major innovation: the Fiat Orso, also known as the Giga-Panda, which will share most of the Fastback's technical features but will adopt a more classic body.
Communication still locked
For the moment, no official announcement has been made by Fiat about this model. Antonio Filosa, the brand's new CEO, has frozen all product communication until a new industrial plan is presented in 2026. However, this discretion has not prevented prototypes from circulating, as evidenced by the recently released photo.
A concept already close to the final version?
While we await further official information, an official concept close to the production version was presented by Fiat in the spring of 2024. The look of this concept, its proportions, and its Fastback line could well reflect what the final model will look like.

Looking forward to this. But I wish Fiat would offer a bigger BEV battery than the 44kwh unit from the Grande Panda, surely a bigger pack of 50kwh would fit?? But this new Fiat car I'm hugely keen on!
If it's like the eC3 Aircross, it will have a 44 kWh battery. For a bigger battery, Fiat would have to launch an SUV like the Citroën eC5, but that one is on STLA medium, so I don't think it will happen right away. They're already planning to produce the Grande Panda, launch the 500 hybrid, Fastback, Orso, and Pickup, then they'll launch a new Panda and a new 500... and then maybe a larger SUV like the eC5 Aircross. That's my opinion.
I think the eC3 Aircross is getting the 51kwh battery, so there may be hope lol
If it's the case, so yes!
The Opel clone (Frontera) will feature the 51kWh net battery this autumn. On the other hand, they had announced 136 hp and are still at 114 for the moment. This powertrain lacks efficiency. There are still a lot of things to review before it becomes a viable EV.
