They find a forgotten Ferrari 328 GTB from 1989 with less than 1000 miles on the clock! "It's like opening the best Christmas present ever!

There are some finds that give even the most seasoned collectors the creeps. In a perfectly dry English barn, sheltered from damp and curious onlookers, a 1989 Ferrari 328 GTB had been patiently biding its time for almost three decades. Covered in a slipcover and wedged behind a pile of objects, the Italian beauty seemed to be protected by an improvised fortress against the passage of time.

"It's like opening the best Christmas present.

As one of the auctioneers pulled the zipper on the case, he uttered a phrase that perfectly summed up the scene: "It's like opening the best Christmas present ever! And it's hard to argue with him. The Rosso Corsa paintwork is still shining, the magnolia leather of the interior seems to have barely acquired a patina, and the characteristic smell of leather is still present. Ferrari is still there. The odometer, meanwhile, displays an almost unreal figure: 891 miles, or approximately 1,434 kilometers. A figure that probably makes this the lowest-mileage Ferrari 328 still in existence.

A Ferrari forgotten since the late 1990s

First registered on December 1, 1989, this 328 GTB hasn't been driven since 1998. It is said to have been sidelined following the purchase of a Ferrari F355 by its owner, before simply being forgotten. The car has had only two owners since it left Maranello, the second of whom kept it from 1991 until his recent death, which led to the liquidation of his estate. Despite its prolonged immobilization, the tires still hold the air, the rims are intact, and the bodywork is impressive. At first, the teams tried to pull it out by hand, but in the end a winch was needed to carefully extract the Ferrari from its case.

The quintessential Ferrari of the 1980s

First presented in 1985 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the Ferrari 328 replaced the 308 with an in-depth evolution. Still designed by Pininfarina, it retained its now legendary proportions, while adopting a naturally-aspirated 3.2-liter V8 developing 266 hp, mated to a five-speed manual gearbox with exposed grille. At the time, the 328 GTB was up against such benchmarks as the Porsche 911 and Lamborghini Jalpa. With a 0 to 100 km/h time of just over five seconds and a top speed of 263 km/h, it embodied a no-nonsense vision of the Italian sports car.

Exceptional condition... but time to get back on track

While the aesthetic condition is remarkable, the mechanics are mute. The V8 turns freely, but the car is officially sold as a project to be restarted or restored. No registration documents accompany the vehicle, apart from the original manual. However, this example is richly equipped for its time: rear spoiler, leather-wrapped dashboard, air conditioning and ABS are on the list of options chosen by its first owner.

A dream sale with no reserve price

The Ferrari 328 GTB will be offered at auction without reserve price at Anglia Car Auctions, scheduled for January 31 and February 1, 2026, under lot 679. A rare opportunity to acquire a virtually new Ferrari, frozen in its original condition, with mileage that even museums can envy. How high will the bidding go for this genuine time capsule from the 1980s?

  1. Unbelievable! Forgetting a Ferrari in a barn (the quality of the barn is often a sieve).
Afterwards, you'll have to dismantle everything mechanically before restarting.
