Lewis Hamilton releases the video behind the wheel of the Ferrari F40 (and this time he shouldn't get into trouble)

A few days after setting fire to Japan's famous Daikoku parking lot, Lewis Hamilton But this time, it's not just photos and videos captured by fans. The pilot Ferrari has just posted a spectacular video of his own on his social networks, and it's already making the rounds.

Tokyo Drift, Act III

Remember this. At the end of March, just a few days before the Japanese Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton appeared at the wheel of a Ferrari F40 on the legendary Daikoku Parking Area. A sequence that has gone viral, a perfect symbol of the meeting between a Formula 1 legend and one of the most emblematic places in Japanese motoring culture. But this time around, Hamilton is stepping up a gear.

In a video posted on Instagram, the Briton stages what clearly looks like a sequel to his Japanese motoring escapades. Some are already talking about “Tokyo Drift Vol. III”. And the choice of car is by no means insignificant: the Ferrari F40, the absolute icon of Maranello, finds itself at the heart of a veritable mechanical show.

The red supercar is seen on the streets of Tokyo and in the Daikoku parking lot, with brutal acceleration, controlled drifts and, above all, impressive burnouts. The tires smoke, the twin-turbo V8 screams, and the whole thing exudes an atmosphere as raw as it is spectacular.

F40 pushed to the limit

The Ferrari F40 is a car like no other. Designed in the late '80s to celebrate Ferrari's 40th anniversary, it is renowned for its radical, unassisted nature, and for being difficult to control.

To see it used in this way, in a mixture of drifting, donuts and aggressive driving, is not at all insignificant. In fact, it's rare enough to merit a mention, given the model's status today as a collector's item, often preserved with extreme care.

In the video, however, Hamilton seems perfectly at ease, exploiting the car's potential with a certain casualness, almost as if it were a simple exercise in style. One sequence in particular, with a particularly strong doughnut, is particularly memorable... as is the surprise voice at the end of the video, attributed to Kim Kardashian.

No controversy this time?

This new video is reminiscent of an episode well known to fans. In 2022, Lewis Hamilton had already caused a stir after driving a Nissan Skyline R34 in a very demonstrative manner in Japan. This sequence got him into trouble with a rental company, which was not very happy with the way the car was being used.

But in 2026, the context is very different. Now an official Scuderia Ferrari driver since 2025, Hamilton enjoys a very special status. It's hard to imagine that this Ferrari F40 would have been used without the agreement, or even the support, of the Italian marque. Everything suggests that this was a perfectly mastered operation, combining communication, image and pleasure.

The result: millions of views in just a few hours, immediate virality and a further demonstration of the seven-time world champion's media aura.
