After Dubai and its extravagance, it's off to China. If you thought hanging a car in a living room was excessive enough, a restaurant in Shanghai takes the concept one step further: here, a car is hung in a living room. Ferrari hangs from the ceiling... and tells the time.
In recent months, the most improbable automotive stagings seem to be multiplying. Last July, we reported on a Dubai-based entrepreneur who had caused quite a stir by hanging a "Ferrari" in his living roomlike a gigantic chandelier. In Shanghai, the idea takes an even more theatrical turn. In a busy restaurant, customers dine and drink while a Ferrari F430 hangs... upside down, just above their heads.
Ferrari F430 transformed into a giant clock
The scene seems unreal. And yet, photos shared on social networks quickly confirmed the fact: a red Ferrari F430 is indeed attached to the restaurant's ceiling. Far from being a mere fixture, the Italian supercar plays an unexpected role here. According to customer testimonials, the Ferrari turns slowly on itself, integrated into a giant clock mechanism. It acts like a monumental hand, marking the passage of time. Better still, the installation emits an audible signal every fifteen minutes.

The venue behind this staging is called 1886 German Car Restaurant. It's located in Shanghai's Huangpu district. The atmosphere is clearly automotive, with German-inspired cuisine.
The Ferrari on the ceiling is only the centerpiece of a much larger décor. The walls would be covered with mechanical parts, elements reminiscent of car workshops and bespoke creations. Some suggest piston-shaped lighting fixtures, tool-inspired furniture and a bus-shaped bar. If you ever get the chance to visit, send us your photos!

It's better than eating in the Ferrari and risking dirtying the seats 😉
Suspended cars exist elsewhere, for example at Berlin's Hard Rock Café, where a VW Beetle hangs on a wall. But a car above the tables, like this restaurant in China, I wouldn't really want to sit at those tables.
