While Ferrari as Lamborghini break sales (and margin) records every year, to the point where we sometimes wonder where it will all end, 2025 marks an unexpected turning point. In certain key markets, the historic duel between the prancing horse and the bull of Sant'Agata Bolognese is undergoing an unprecedented rebalancing.
Ferrari traditionally retains the world crown in terms of volume, thanks to a broader presence and an image as strong as ever. But Lamborghini has just achieved a feat: for the first time, the Italian brand has registered more cars than Ferrari in the USA, its biggest market, and in the UK, another European bastion where Ferrari has reigned until now.
The numbers: Ferrari stays ahead, but Lamborghini hits hard
Over the period January-August 2025, Ferrari registered 5,660 units in the countries surveyed (USA, Germany, Italy, Japan, UK and France). Lamborghini followed with 4,913 units. Overall, Ferrari is still in the lead.
But the details change:
- United States: Lamborghini takes the lead with 2,227 sales, compared with 2,119 for Ferrari. A first that illustrates the growing appeal of SUVs like the Urus, the brand's commercial powerhouse.
- United Kingdom: the bull strikes again with 610 registrations, compared with 498 for Ferrari.
- Italy: Ferrari maintains its lead (565 vs 403), but the gap remains tight.
- Germany: the preferred hunting ground for supercars, Ferrari clearly dominates with 1,300 sales, compared with 922 for Lamborghini.
- Japan: Ferrari again shines (957 vs. 664), confirming its iconic status with local enthusiasts.
- France: a more modest market, where Ferrari remains well ahead (221 versus 87).
These results show that the duel between the two Italian automakers is no longer simply a question of overall strength. Preferences vary from country to country:
- Americans and Brits are now turning more to Lamborghini,
- By contrast, Germany and Japan remain Ferrari strongholds,
- Italy, the birthplace of both brands, reflects a more balanced market.
Please note: in Switzerland, Ferrari and Lamborghini registrations are not published. For Monaco or Andorra, even less so!
The duel is just beginning
Ferrari remains world leader, but the dynamics are interesting: Lamborghini is succeeding in reversing the trend in strategic markets, which could reshuffle the cards in the medium term. And what if, in a few years' time, the bull ends up definitively upsetting the prancing horse on the world stage?
