Ferrari could launch a new Testarossa... with a V12 even more powerful than the 12Cilindri?

And if one of the most mythical names in the history of Ferrari about to be reborn? Ferrari's registration of a new trademark "849 Testarossa" in Iceland this July has rekindled speculation that a new supercar is in the works at Maranello, with a V12 engine even more powerful than that of the recent 12Cilindri?

Trademark registration... in Iceland for starters?

Registering the name "849 Testarossa" with the Icelandic office may seem strange. Nevertheless, by registering this name until 2035, Ferrari is giving itself time to exploit it in the best possible conditions. It's worth noting, however, that according to our research into trademark registration tools, Ferrari 849 Testarossa has been filed in other countries, pending validation.

But what really intrigues is the choice of the number "849". At Ferrari, numbers are never left to chance. After the 812 Superfast (812 = 6,496 cm³ / 800 hp ≈ 8.12) or more recently the Ferrari 12Cilindri and its 830 hp, the name "849 Testarossa" could well hide a clue to the power of the future supercar. A clear hint of an 849 hp engine, potentially a V12 even more powerful than that of the 12Cilindri.

A modern Testarossa

The return of the Testarossa name could take many forms. The most logical would be a special version of the recent 12Cilindri, giving it an 80s-inspired neo-retro look (side air intakes, sharp lines), while increasing the V12's power to 849 hp.

The original Testarossa, launched in 1984, marked an entire generation with its futuristic design, 12-cylinder engine and impressive power. If Ferrari decides to resurrect this legendary name, it won't be for a simple marketing exercise. The objective would be clear: to make history once again with a car as powerful as it is desirable, on a par with the Daytona SP3, the 288 GTO or the 599 GTO.

Officially, Ferrari is not confirming anything. But the registration of the name "849 Testarossa", the carefully chosen timing, and the automaker's recent strategy of reviving its iconic models suggest that a project is well and truly in the works.

  1. While Alfa and Maserati are hesitating about electric or PHEV, maybe !!!! the 2035 law ????
Ferrari doesn't give a damn, we're going to make V12s full of horsepower!
There's something seriously wrong with Stellantis.
During my stay in the USA and talking with car enthusiasts, ( they remain very pro American) but in the European, German, ( but expensive) English ( there are not many left) and Italian apart from Ferrari, Maserati know more old. Alfa engines are ridiculous.
    Here's the balance sheet
