F1 driver Fernando Alonso seen at the wheel of his 4 million $ Ferrari LaFerrari

In Monaco, certain images seem to repeat themselves... but never tire. Having recently been photographed at the wheel of a Ferrari F40Fernando Alonso is back on the streets of the Principality. This time, the two-time Formula 1 world champion was spotted driving a Ferrari even more exclusive: a LaFerrari, Maranello's legendary hypercar, now worth around $4 million. The images, relayed on social networks by the specialized account @monaco_luxurystyle, show Fernando Alonso discreetly enjoying his car, in this Monegasque scene where supercars and F1 drivers seem to evolve in their natural habitat.

A black LaFerrari

Contrary to the iconic red image often associated with Ferrari, Fernando Alonso's LaFerrari features a particularly elegant and aggressive configuration. The car is finished in Nero DS Opaco, a matte black with red accents, notably on the brake calipers. The wheels are painted in the same shade as the body. Alonso has owned this LaFerrari for several years now. It may not be as rare or expensive as his incredible Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR, recently spotted in Monaco and estimated at over $10 million, but it remains one of the most coveted modern Ferraris on the planet.

Technically, the Ferrari LaFerrari remains a demonstration of strength. Its 6.3-liter naturally-aspirated V12 alone develops 800 hp, assisted by a 163-hp electric motor. Combined output reaches 963 hp. Performance is on a par with the specification sheet: less than three seconds to go from 0 to 100 km/h and a top speed announced at around 350 km/h.

While Fernando Alonso probably paid much less for his LaFerrari back then, its current value has literally exploded. The latest sales figures put the LaFerrari's value at between $3.7 and $5.2 million, depending on mileage, history and configuration. Estimating Alonso's at around $4 million is far from exaggerated.

Alonso, Aston Martin in F1... Ferrari in the garage

The image remains deliciously paradoxical. Officially, Fernando Alonso is an Aston Martin Formula 1 driver. But when it comes to road cars, his heart is clearly set on Maranello. The LaFerrari completes an already impressive garage, which also includes a Ferrari F40, recently spotted in Monaco, and a Ferrari 512 TR, another V12 icon of the 90s. In the past, Alonso has also owned a Ferrari Enzo, sold at auction in Monaco for 5.4 million euros in 2023.

Spanish drivers and Ferrari: history repeats itself

Finally, it's hard not to make the connection with another Spanish Formula 1 driver: Carlos Sainz. He too collects the most exclusive Ferraris, from the 812 Competizione to the Daytona SP3, via the SF90 XX Spider, and perhaps soon the coveted Ferrari F80. For both Alonso and Sainz, the Ferrari seems to be an object of passion. and an accepted investment. In Maranello, some cars are worth more in a garage than in a bank account.

  1. Alonso is right, Aston Martins are unreliable. We might as well be driving Ferraris, which are far better than Aston Martins.
