
It's the kind of image that hurts every car enthusiast: a Ferrari F40 LM, valued at over $3 million, was seriously damaged after being hit by a truck on a highway near Salt Lake City, USA.
The incident occurred on Saturday June 28, at around 10 pm. The lucky, but unlucky, owner, known on the networks as @supercar_ron, was driving quietly when a semi-trailer carrying a tanker hit him violently from the side.
In the process, the truck ripped through the entire side of the F40 LM: driver's side door, rear wing, rocker panel, bumper and even the left rear rim were pulverized. Images posted on Instagram by the owner show the layers of carbon and Kevlar torn away, reminding us just how extreme and rare this LM version is, with only 19 examples produced, even sharper and lighter than the already mythical F40.



Worst of all, the truck driver didn't stop and drove off, leaving behind a crashed supercar and a shocked, but fortunately uninjured, owner. According to Ron, the hit-and-run driver knew exactly what he had done and is being actively sought. A reward has even been promised for any information leading to his recovery.
Let's hope the carrier's insurance is up to scratch, because restoring such an icon will cost an astronomical sum. The F40 LM remains irreplaceable: faster, rarer, more radical than a standard F40...
