After the Porsche 911, he transformed the Ferrari 308 into a 4×4 to take part in a 3,000 km rally.

A crazy gamble, a romantic challenge, an extraordinary mechanical adventure. After winning the East African Safari Classic Rally in 2023 at the wheel of a Porsche 911, driver Eugenio Amos returns to Kenya with an even crazier idea: to enter a Ferrari 308 in one of the toughest competitions on the planet.

Italian legend meets African savannah

The Safari Classic is more than just a race. From December 5 to 13, 2025, over 3,000 km of open Kenyan roads, sometimes extending as far as Tanzania and Uganda, await the participants. Red dust, sweltering heat, river crossings, open roads and unpredictable weather: this rally tests drivers, co-drivers and mechanics like no other.

For Amos, the idea is not just to run, but to make history. Bringing a Ferrari in the dust and rocks of Africa means moving the Cavallino Rampante from its natural terrain of asphalt to a world of stones, sand and mud.

Why the Ferrari 308?

An icon of the 70s and 80s, made famous by the Magnum P.I. series, the Ferrari 308 also has a little-known rally history. A few examples prepared by Michelotto for Group 4 had raced at the end of the 70s, with success in national championships. But never has a 308 tackled the African tracks of the Safari Rally.

Eugenio Amos takes up this forgotten thread. His Automobili Amos team has completely redesigned the sports car:

  • reinforced and redesigned suspension,
  • massive sub-base protection,
  • reinforced mechanical parts,
  • Pirelli Scorpion tires tailor-made for African tracks.

The 308 is ready to leave the comfort of racetracks and asphalt roads behind and take on the savannah. This mechanical transformation is complemented by a unique touch of style. The project is supported by SEASE, an Italian fashion brand. Their inspiration? Solaro fabric, emblematic of British elegance. The result is a dark green dress, enhanced by orange graphics and sand-colored panels, as a nod to the desert the car is about to defy.

The follies of Eugenio Amos

Eugenio Amos is no stranger to the automotive world. Founder of Automobili Amos, he has already made his mark with the Delta Futurista, a spectacular restomod of the Lancia Delta Integrale. A passionate driver, he has already proved his tenacity by winning the Safari Classic 2023 with a Porsche 911. But this time, he's going one step further: "There are easier ways to race, but none as exciting as taking a Ferrari to the toughest rally in the world," he confides. From December 5 to 13, 2025, Africa will witness a rare spectacle: a Ferrari 308 bouncing along the tracks, in an almost insane mechanical and human challenge.

  1. 40 years ago, Spanish rally driver Zanini had already competed in a "safari" rally with a Michelotto 308 gr IV. It was at the Baja Aragon in 1985. The car was in Marlboro livery, with the spare wheel strapped to the roof and the front wheel arch streamlined over its upper third.

  2. When you think of the 308 Rallye, you automatically think of Biche and Jean-Claude Andruet, and above all of the fact that he drove a crazy race late, and the 308 went so fast that it felt like it was flying and rarely touched the ground, so much so that he finished the race with a crazy lead and puked 🤮 as he got out of the car. Even the rival driver with the other Ferrari from an Italian team came to congratulate him and cried in his arms, such was the magnitude of his achievement.
    Daniel Marin made it possible.

  3. When Marin presented the 308 Rallye to Enzo, who discovered its weight and power (350hp for 1050kg), Enzo himself couldn't believe it and asked his team to have it weighed. When he saw that Michelotto had achieved this feat, he was furious and summoned his staff to create a super 308 "that was supposedly impossible" by giving them precise data that would see the 288 GTO come into the world and... the first SuperCar.
