Jean Alesi continues to be the talk of the racing world. Ferrari collector's item. After selling his legendary F40 in 2020 to finance his son Giuliano's Formula 2 career, the Franco-Sicilian former F1 driver is preparing to part with another rare piece of his collection: his 1992 Ferrari F92A, a genuine Formula 1 single-seater... which hasn't been started in almost 30 years!

A piece of history from Scuderia Ferrari

This F92A is no ordinary Ferrari. It was driven by Alesi himself during the 1992 season, at a time when the Scuderia was going through a period of turbulence. Designed by Jean-Claude Migeot, this innovative single-seater was distinguished by its revolutionary aerodynamics... but also by its technical weaknesses. Its 3.5-liter V12 developing 750 hp suffered from reliability problems, with power losses of 40 to 50 hp compared with the Williams-Renault rivals.

Given to Alesi by Ferrari at the end of the season, the car has never taken to the track since. It has spent the last three decades immobile in the gym of his villa near Avignon, like a trophy frozen in time.

An exceptional auction in Paris

But history is about to have a new chapter. Artcurial Motorcars has announced that the F92A will go on sale on January 27, 2026 at the prestigious Automobile Legends auction, held at the Hôtel Peninsula in Paris. The estimate? Between 3 and 4 million euros. A sum that not only reflects the car's historic value, but also its unique provenance: straight from the hands of the Ferrari factory driver himself.

Matthieu Lamoure, President of Artcurial Motorcars, points out that "what makes this car truly unique is its provenance: it comes directly from the driver, certainly the most popular of his generation".

"I want an enthusiast to make it roar again".

For Jean Alesi, the decision to part with it was not a renunciation, but rather a gesture of transmission. "When I came home after driving my 1995 Ferrari at Monza, I saw my F92A sitting motionless in my gym. I realized that it belonged on a racetrack," he tells AFP. He added: "I've decided to put it up for sale, so that someone who's passionate about it can bring it back to life and make this legendary V12 roar again!"

The operation won't be easy, however: restarting a 1992 Formula 1 requires the original software to be found, essential for safely activating the engine and its many sensors. But the future owner will have the rare opportunity to hear one of the last vintage Ferrari V12s screaming.

The Alesi-Ferrari legacy: passion and nostalgia

Jean Alesi, now 61, remains one of the most beloved drivers in Ferrari history. After arriving at Maranello in 1991, he gave the Scuderia its only Grand Prix victory, in Canada in 1995. With 201 F1 starts and a career marked by his fiery temperament, he embodies an era when passion took precedence over technology. In 2026, in Paris, his F92A will be back in the spotlight. An imperfect car, to be sure, but one charged with emotion and symbolism. Like a final tribute to a driver who always put his heart before everything else.
