A Ferrari F40 "Verde Fortunato": sacrilege or masterpiece?

After the Ferrari F40 "Blue Shipsold a few days ago at auction for the princely sum of $2.75 million, another F40 has been repainted! Produced by the English company DK Engineering, it sports a livery that is, to say the least, unexpected: a deep green called "Verde Fortunato". Enough to ignite debate among purists.

A unique F40

In the world of supercars, the Ferrari F40 occupies a special place. Produced between 1987 and 1996 in just over 1,300 examples (including the Competizione, LM and GTE variants), it has become a veritable icon over the years. With its 2.9-liter twin-turbo V8 producing 478 hp and 577 Nm of torque, it accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds and reached a top speed of 324 km/h. Even today, these figures remain impressive.

Its timeless design, analog character and brutality still make it for many the quintessential Ferrari, alongside the 288 GTO, F50, Enzo or LaFerrari. But for purists, one rule is immutable: an F40 must be red.

Verde Fortunato: a nod to history

DK Engineering wanted to go further than a simple restoration. This F40 benefits from a "clean" configuration, as they put it, including a hydraulic "lift" suspension system and ceramic brake discs. But it's the color that really catches the eye.

The green chosen is not insignificant: christened "Verde Fortunato", it was inspired by a Ferrari 330 GTC Speciale (chassis 08753), whose color made a lasting impression. An assertive choice, which lends the Italian supercar an unmistakable charm.

Sacrilege or masterpiece?

On social networks, the appearance of this green F40 immediately sparked controversy. For many purists, repainting an F40 in any color other than red is heresy. After all, the entire production run was originally delivered in this way. But others find the livery simply sublime.

The combination of deep green and the F40's aggressive lines gives it a unique, almost aristocratic character. Some even go so far as to suggest painting the wheels white to accentuate its "gentleman driver" look. The Ferrari F40 remains one of the most desirable supercars of all time, and the market proves it: most examples today sell for between $2 and $3 million.
