In the world of Italian automobiles, we thought we'd seen it all. Meticulous restorations, restomods, concept cars... but certainly not a single one. Ferrari transformed into a coffee machine. And yet that's exactly what created the buzz at Concorso Italiano 2025, during Monterey Car Week in California: a 1984 Ferrari 308 converted into a veritable mobile coffee shop.
It all began with a joke. Walter Haas, the new owner of San Francisco coffee roasting house Graffeo Coffee, came across some old car magazines at the company's headquarters. Intrigued, he learned that the Graffeo family had long driven Ferraris. From there, an innocuous phrase floats into a creative meeting: "What if we bought a Ferrari... and shot espressos out of its trunk?"
A joke that turned into a crazy project. Between $75,000 and $125,000 later, a 1984 Ferrari 308 Rosso Corsa was acquired. The Church of the Air Cooled workshop (which specializes in Porsches) was the setting for this extraordinary transformation. At the rear, in the engine compartment, a professional espresso machine is installed next to the V8 and connected to the electrical system. A water tank is located at the front, and pumps run throughout the car to supply the system.

The result? The Ferrari 308 is still functional, but its rear trunk now delivers... espressos. The unlikely blend of V8 roar and coffee aroma drew crowds at the Concorso Italiano. Visitors crowded around the car, smartphones in hand, to photograph what many are already calling "the world's most expensive coffee machine".

Founded in 1935, Graffeo Coffee is proud of its Italian roots. This project, offbeat as it may be, is a nod to Italy in all its forms: its cars, its coffee culture and its taste for originality. After appearances at automotive events and even in the NASCAR paddock, this Ferrari barista has confirmed its place in the collective imagination: at Monterey, it was one of the most photographed and commented-on cars of the week, alongside brand-new Ferraris and Lamborghinis.
