The exhaust system on the De Tomaso P900 looks like something out of a science fiction film

When De Tomaso presented the P900, the objective was clear: to hit hard, very hard. A radical hypercar reserved for the track, produced in just 18 examples, the P900 seeks neither consensus nor discretion. But today, it's not just its extreme concept or its figures that fascinate: it's its engine... and above all its exhaust system, worthy of a science-fiction setting.

A V12 that doesn't seek to reassure

At the heart of the P900 is an entirely new naturally-aspirated V12 engine, developed specifically for this project. With a displacement of 6.2 liters, 900 horsepower and a top speed flirting with 12,300 rpm, this engine was conceived as a statement of intent. De Tomaso takes a resolutely "old school" approach, while incorporating modern technologies such as the exclusive use of synthetic fuels. Visually, this V12 impresses as much as it disturbs. The multiple exhaust pipes intertwine in an almost organic architecture, evoking for many the dark, biomechanical universe of a science-fiction film. Some even see it as inspired by the aesthetics of H.R. Giger.

While the V12 engine is of German origin, the exhaust system is no accident. De Tomaso has teamed up with Italtecnica Engineering, a well-known name in cutting-edge projects, for this key component. Italtecnica Engineering is no novice. The Italian company is notably behind technical developments for exceptional restomods such as Kimera Automobili or Totem Automobili. In other words, when it comes to sublimating a mechanism while respecting its soul, their know-how is unquestionable.

The P900

The P900 was never intended to be homologated for the road. With a dry weight limited to 900 kg, an ultra-rigid carbon structure and an engine used as a load-bearing element, De Tomaso is aiming for an experience akin to an LMP prototype, but reserved for a select few collectors. Showing this exhaust is part of the show. Arriving on a racetrack with a P900 doesn't just mean displaying outstanding performance: it imposes a presence, almost an intimidation, long before you even get started.
