After a particularly successful 2025 season in Europe, Maserati Corse is preparing to take things to the next level. The Maserati GT2, spearheading the Trident brand's return to GT competition since 2023, will now tackle the American market. From 2026, the GT2 will be eligible for the International GT Championship in the USA, where it will compete in the GTX class alongside established names such as Porsche, Ferrari and Mercedes.
A near-perfect 2025 European season
For Maserati Corse, 2025 will go down as one of the most positive years since its return to closed-cars championships. Entered by the LP Racing team, the Maserati GT2 dominated the AM category of the GT2 European Series. Philippe Prette retained his championship title, following an impressive season which saw him win 10 of the 12 races. His consistency and performance were officially rewarded at the SRO Motorsports Group Awards ceremony, held in Venice on November 22. This success confirms the relevance of Maserati's GT2 project, designed to offer high performance while remaining accessible to customer teams, a positioning which has rapidly found its audience in Europe.

2026: continuity in Europe and new global ambitions
The year 2026 will build on this momentum. Maserati has already confirmed the presence of its cars in the GT2 European Series, with the start of the season scheduled for Monza at the end of May 2026. The Italian brand will also be involved in the SRO GT Academy, a new format introducing a Silver class and, in the medium term, opening the doors to the GT World Challenge Europe - Endurance Cup from 2027. But beyond Europe, Maserati is now thinking much bigger. The GT2 is now homologated for over 20 championships, representing more than 170 races a year over a hundred race weekends around the world. Its arrival in International GT in the United States is part of this expansion.

The GTX category, gateway to International GT
The Maserati GT2 will make its International GT debut in the GTX category. This deliberately open category welcomes high-performance GTs that don't fit into a strict GT3 or GT4 framework. It brings together cars from Cup, Challenge and top-level GT programs, offering a varied and spectacular line-up. At the last round in 2025, the field already reflected this diversity: Porsche GT3 Cup cars were well represented, as were Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo, Porsche Cayman Clubsport and even a Mercedes-AMG GT3. In this environment, the Maserati GT2 is naturally positioned alongside Porsche, Ferrari and Mercedes, brands already firmly established in the championship.

A prestigious American calendar for 2026
For its first full season in 2026, the International GT will offer a particularly tough calendar, made up exclusively of legendary North American motorsport circuits. The season kicks off in Sebring at the end of February, before moving on to Road Atlanta, Lime Rock, Mid-Ohio, Road America, Watkins Glen, VIR, Laguna Seca, Barber and finally Austin (COTA) for the finale. All these demanding tracks will showcase the dynamic qualities of the Maserati GT2, while offering the brand increased visibility in a highly strategic market.
This rise to international prominence comes at a highly symbolic time for the brand. In 2026, Maserati will celebrate the centenary of its racing debut, dating back to 1926 when the Tipo 26, the first car to bear the Trident, won its class at the Targa Florio.
