A few days ago, a strange automotive creature surfaced on Reddit. Spotted in the underground parking lot of a shopping mall in Athens, this bright red car immediately sowed doubt.
At the front, its headlights are reminiscent of those on an Alfa Romeo 159. The front bumper is reminiscent of a Lamborghini Gallardo. On the sides, scoops worthy of a Ferrari Testarossa. At the rear, lights reminiscent of a Nissan GT-R and no fewer than five F40-style tailpipes. In short, an automotive puzzle. But then, what is it really?
Internet users investigate

Comments abound. Some saw it as a heavily modified Alfa Romeo Spider, others as a mix of Camaro and Ferrari. One user even quipped that it was a "Cambriolarri".
Finally, one detail puts everyone in agreement: the interior. A close look at the dashboard reveals the unmistakable look of a BMW 3 Series E36 Cabriolet. A Greek familiar with the car confirms: "I'm from Greece, I know this car. It's an E36 cabrio, no doubt about it."

A not-so-new car
It's not the first time this car has been in the news. Three years ago, it was photographed in Athens. Since then, its red glittery paintwork seems to have been redone and new rims have appeared. In the end, the mystery lies not in its base, a simple BMW, but in the unlikely mix of parts it sports. A mix of Koenig inspiration, 2000s tuning looks and exotic touches from Maranello, it epitomizes a certain era of tuning.

Reactions ranged from admiration for the work accomplished to horror at the end result. "A disaster", "An abomination", "What a massacre" can be read. But others defend the project, seeing it as a creation as crazy as it is fun: "It looks like a real GTA car" or "It's pretty cool, I wouldn't drive it, but it's fun to look at."
