In 2023, Alfa Romeo made its mark on the automotive world with the resurrection of the legendary 33 Stradale. A modern masterpiece, limited to 33 examples, equipped with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 developing 620 hp, sold for between 2 and 3 million euros according to estimates. But while the first customers have been receiving their supercars since the end of 2024, another, even more handcrafted 33 Stradale has arrived on the automotive scene with a promise just as tantalizing... if not more radical.
Name? R33. Where does it come from? The United Kingdom. What makes it special? An atmospheric Ferrari V8.
PPW's radical tribute

The project was the brainchild of an enthusiast by the name of David Hutchinson. This collector spent five years imagining and building an extreme reinterpretation of the original 1967 33 Stradale. The project was intended to be a one-off, but in view of the enthusiasm generated.., the small British company PPW decided to produce 33 numbered examples of this restomod, named R33, in a nod to Alfa Romeo.
Gone is the modern twin-turbo V6. The R33 is powered by a 4.2-liter naturally-aspirated V8 from the 2013 Maserati Quattroporte GTS, itself derived from the famous Ferrari F136 block also found in the F430. The result: 376 hp, a breathtaking sound and, above all, a mechanical experience that is rare today.

The engine is mid-mounted at the rear, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. No turbo, no electronics, no frills: the R33 is an old-fashioned supercar, with no ABS, power steering, traction control or power brakes. A veritable analog UFO approved for the road.

Hand-crafted bodywork
Each R33 is built from an entirely new steel chassis, respecting the proportions of the 1967 Alfa but reinforced with modern materials. The bodywork, meanwhile, is a work of art: hand-formed, carbon-free aluminum panels, in keeping with the craftsmanship of yesteryear.

Despite its classic lines, the R33 is no mere replica: less than 4 meters long, dry weight under 1,000 kg, bespoke suspension by Gazzmatic, and oversized Wilwood brakes for behavior as pure as it is radical. Gullwing doors complete this neo-retro masterpiece.

A credible alternative to the official Alfa Romeo?
Faced with the modern Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale, the R33 is the raw, visceral interpretation. Where Alfa relies on high-tech, carbon fiber and a stratospheric price estimated at over 2 million euros, PPW offers an analog, customizable tribute, at a "reasonable" price of £540,000 ex VAT, or around 620,000 euros.

This may seem a high price, but it's still three to four times cheaper than the official version. If you are interested, it is possible to reserve your model. on the official R33 website.
