The mystery Alfa Romeo to be presented in 2026 is...

A few days ago, we revealed thata source spotted a totally new Alfa Romeowhich is scheduled for launch in 2026. This information came as a surprise, especially in the context of the Italian brand's current product plan. Alfa Romeo.

Indeed, with the presentation of the new Stelvio postponed from 2025 to 2027 (some rumors even point to 2028), and the new Giulia moving from 2026 to 2027, a gap is opening up in the product calendar. The Junior has already been launched in 2024. So what could this unexpected model be, spotted alongside the brand's future vehicles?

According to our source, this mysterious model was seen in the company of the Tonale restyled (slightly), the new generations of Giulia and Stelvio, as well as than an SUV somewhere between the Tonale and the Stelvio. A model which, until now, has not featured in any known roadmap.

But another source, equally reliable and astonished, was able to tell us more: it would simply be the new Tonale. This would be based on the STLA Medium platform, and would normally go into production from September 2027. However, Alfa Romeo seems intent on presenting this model as early as 2026, and potentially bringing production forward.

This future Tonale will offer several powertrains: simple hybrid, plug-in hybrid and 100 % electric. It will share its technical base with the new Peugeot 3008 and the recently unveiled Jeep Compass.

There remains one essential question: why unveil a new Tonale in 2026, when the current model was released in 2022 and a restyling is planned in the coming months? Will the two Tonales coexist? Will the current model be phased out? Or will the new model be renamed to avoid confusion?

The context may explain this decision. The future Stelvio was planned only as a 100 % electric version, in a market where demand is still limited. Add to this the recent US tariffs on imported electric vehicles, and Alfa Romeo may have reconsidered its plans.

One thing's for sure: the mystery is clearing up, but the new Tonale still raises many questions.

  1. I think Alfa Romeo is the only brand in the world to constantly shift new vehicle launch dates.
    The place is a mess.
Giulia released in 2016, Stelvio 2017. Slight restyling in 2020, then 2024, replacement planned for 2026, then 2027 or even 2028.
Tonale released in 2022, restyled in 2024, new maybe 2027, but we just read that maybe restyling in 2027, etc.....

  2. The explanations are simple:

1/ We need to fill the order book before going into production, in the absence of a genuine new product that can be marketed in 2025 and 2026.
2/ it seems to be an admission that the restyled Tonale should not have a wow effect
3/ have something to present in 2026, especially if the Stelvio doesn't arrive until 2027, and avoid telescoping in that year.
4/ all the more so since the platform is so ready to go

  4. Se questo sarà un altro clone della Peugeott 3008 con un motore Puretech, allora potrebbero non metterlo in produzione. Le vendite saranno comunque disastrose.

  6. I absolutely deplore the fact that these new Alfa Romeos no longer have a soul.
These cars have become commonplace in name only.
What's more, the group swears by suvs and electric cars.
I've had a Gt Turbo D coupe, which was pure joy, and a Giulietta that I loved, simply because they were racy and had great engines that were good to hear.
As a result, I don't buy Alfa Romeo anymore, too disappointed.

  8. STELLANTIS needs to make its products more reliable. Thanks to Tavares, the cynical cost killer, and all those who supported him in his time! Too many brands, too many cloned models....The Swan Song (!?) 🙄

  9. It can't be a new Tonale. We've been seeing spy photos of the new Alfa Romeo Stelvio mullet next to Jeep Compasses for a while now. The group has done some testing.
Why suddenly release a new Tonale? It doesn't make sense. The model isn't old. Why not restyle it?

  11. It's really sad to see Alfa Romeo drifting and dying like this... After 33 Alfas in the family, from the Alfasud to the Giuliettas, the heart has given out.

  12. Mein 2024er Stelvio QF macht eine Menge Spaß, aber ein späterer Ersatz liest sich danach
nicht nur schwierig, sondern auch eher verworren - .was macht Ihr da , Stellantis ?!
