The Alfa Romeo Stelvio once again proves its driving qualities... with a police chase!

First on TikTok, then on Reddit, a video quickly made the rounds: that of a scene worthy of an action movie, but very real, filmed in the streets of Holbrook, New York.

The on-board camera of a motorist stopped at a red light captures the precise moment when a white Alfa Romeo Stelvio (damaged front bumper) arrives at high speed. The Italian SUV enters a tight right-hand bend with surgical precision, before disappearing from view. Moments later, a police Ford Explorer emerges in hot pursuit. Problem: where the Stelvio had rounded the curve with ease, the huge American SUV missed its trajectory completely... and went straight ahead.

Of course, it goes without saying that car chases and other traffic offences are extremely dangerous and should be avoided. But on the Internet, this sequence has delighted car enthusiasts, who see it as an involuntary demonstration of the driving qualities of the transalpine SUV.

Stelvio praised, Ford Explorer mocked

On Reddit, the comments are unmistakable. "The Stelvio has incredible handling, I've switched to a Mercedes AMG and I miss it," confides one user. Another laughs: "The cop thought he could keep up, but he forgot he was driving a big Explorer".

Humor mingles with admiration: "The best example of a good chassis and a bad chassis", writes one Internet user, while another sums up: "Stelvio = 120 years of motor racing and top-notch handling. Ford Explorer = lots of room and a fire hose-washable cockpit."

Not a Quadrifoglio, but already formidable

What's more, the Stelvio in question is not the 510hp Quadrifoglio version, but probably a 280hp Veloce version. A "mass-market" model, then, but one that benefits from the Giorgio platform designed by Alfa Romeo and hailed for its dynamic balance.

The contrast with the Ford Explorer, massive, heavy and designed for sturdiness rather than agility, only accentuated the demonstration. As one commentator put it: "The Stelvio slowed down for the turn, then accelerated on the exit. The cop, on the other hand, went full throttle and hoped it would pass...".

It's not an official commercial, but the effect is almost the same: in just a few seconds of viral video, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio has reminded us why it remains a benchmark among premium SUVs. Driving precision, agility and stability are qualities often highlighted by the brand, and this scene is a spectacular illustration of this.

  1. If it's with this kind of demo that Alfa hopes to sell ... so small . The Stelvio isn't a sports car (no heavy SUV is) but its hard suspension makes it uncomfortable for an SUV. I'd rather drive a RaV4 than a Stelvio! It's true, I'm not a crook like in the video.
