Launching in 2022, the Tonale is the first plug-in hybrid compact SUV fromAlfa Romeo. But as with any modern car, the slightest fender-bender can quickly run up the bill. The proof is in this real-life example shared by J&B Body Works, a high-end body shop based in Mount Vernon, New York, specializing in prestige brands.

On Instagram, the coachbuilder revealed the case of an Alfa Romeo Tonale 2024 that suffered a simple "bump" to the rear. Yet the estimate for spare parts alone already exceeds $7,000.

In detail :

  • Rear light on tailgate: 1,400 $
  • Rear bumper: 1,200 $
  • Rear light: 600 $
  • Interior reflector: 300 $
  • Rear wing: 3,000 $
  • Internal wheel arch: 200 $
  • Tailgate glass: 300 $

And that's not counting labor, paintwork, calibration of sensors and cameras, or any additional downtime while waiting for parts that can take a long time to obtain. In all, the final bill for restoring this Tonale could easily exceed $15,000, or even more depending on the bodybuilder's hourly rate and the complexity of the repairs. It should be noted that, as the bodybuilder is based in the US, the price of spare parts is probably a little higher than in Europe.

This anecdote illustrates a point often overlooked: on recent vehicles, even a "slight" impact can be very expensive to repair. Make sure you're properly insured!
