Some cars are more than just means of transport. They become fragments of life, silent witnesses to memories accumulated over the years. This is exactly the case with this particularly rare 1967 Alfa Romeo Duetto Spider.
It's a right-hand drive 1600 model, produced in just 351 examples, and retains its original hardtop. But beyond its rarity, it's above all its history that makes it unique.
Catering
The story begins in the early 2000s. At that time, the car was a shadow of its former self: tired paintwork, damaged interior, dismantled parts...

For its owner, it's quite simply the first car he's restored. A seminal experience, the one that gave birth to his passion for classic cars. The restoration was completed almost 20 years ago. Remarkably, the car has stood the test of time without losing its soul. Paintwork, interior... everything remains true to the period.
A lifetime in South Africa
But the most surprising part of the story is that its owner almost never lived with it. For over two decades, this Alfa Romeo remained in South Africa. It was more than just a collector's car: it lived.

Used regularly, entered in numerous historic rallies, driven on family vacations... it collected memories rather than dust. It was not a museum car, but an Alfa Romeo faithful to its vocation: to drive, to vibrate, to exist. Its parents used it on countless events, extending its history well beyond its restoration.
A 6,000-mile journey
After 23 years apart, it was time to bring her “home”. The journey began in East London, South Africa, where the car had been stored for years. It was then transported over 1,200 km to Cape Town, before being prepared for export.

Administrative formalities, inspections, containerization... every step is meticulous. Once enclosed and secured, the Duetto boards the freighter Santa Rita.

For 21 days, its owner follows its journey remotely, scrutinizing every step of the way via an app. An almost unreal wait, a mixture of excitement and nostalgia. Then, finally, the arrival in England.

A long-awaited reunion
When the car arrives on his driveway, the emotion is hard to describe. After 23 years, this is the first time the owner has actually lived with this Alfa Romeo in the same country.

Until now, he'd only driven it on trips to South Africa. Now it's here, within easy reach. Of course, not everything is perfect. The mechanics need overhauling, the suspension is slightly creaky, and a few paint defects are visible. But in the end, this is of little importance.
This Alfa Romeo Duetto is not just a classic car. It's the starting point of a passion, a witness to family moments, and now the beginning of a new chapter. It has crossed years, continents and even generations of use. It has been restored, used, loved... then found again.
And perhaps that's the real magic of Alfa Romeo: they don't just exist. They tell stories.
