After months of speculation, the first official images of the restyled Alfa Romeo Tonale have been leaked on the Autopareri forum. Presented in 2022, the compact SUV is set to undergo its first major facelift in the autumn of 2025. This will be a crucial step in revitalizing sales, which have been sluggish after a promising start.
A Scudetto that recalls Alfa Romeo DNA
What's immediately striking in these illustrations is the evolution of the front bumper and Scudetto. Whereas the the latest spy photos The new images confirm a deeper redesign of the Tonale's face.

The Scudetto adopts an "old-school" design, with horizontal bars that almost evoke past generations, such as the Alfa Romeo 159. A reference to models from before the Giulia/Stelvio era, which should appeal to purists in search of stylistic continuity.
Slight inspiration from Junior
Another notable development: the rest of the front bumper seems to take up styling elements introduced on the recent Alfa Romeo Junior. The side air intakes and horizontal lines are directly reminiscent of the small SUV 100 % Stellantis, presented last spring.

It's hard to tell the difference between the painted and black plastic areas, however, since the illustration is in black and white. But the general spirit is clear: the Tonale is aligned with the new visual identity of the range, with a retro touch to the Scudetto.
New interior and exterior colors and new wheels are also expected. The 160 hp engine should be increased to 175 hp (new method of calculating combined thermal and electric power). Let's hope that the PHEV version also benefits from an efficiency upgrade.

A relaunch expected in autumn
With this restyling, Alfa Romeo is playing for big bucks. After an encouraging year in 2023, the Tonale saw its sales plummet, particularly in Europe. But the brand can't rely on the Junior alone to maintain its sales momentum.
The date has been set for autumn 2025, when Alfa Romeo will officially unveil the restyled Tonale, destined to become a strategic pillar of the range until the next generation arrives in 2026. by a brand-new Tonale, which could be called Brera.
The Tonale is ugly from the outset, with an unbalanced silhouette that looks too long for its width, making it a strange sight from every angle.
This body is a dud, and no amount of restyling is going to correct it. And judging by the pictures in the article, a few economy modifications aren't going to change the poor sales.
I can't wait for him to retire, since according to this site, the replacement is due out next year.
I agree. It's not the brand's greatest aesthetic achievement. It looks clumsy and the design is heavy. In fact, I find the same flaws on the Compass, with which it shares its platform, no dynamism.
It's not retirement that should go and they should get rid of the French and take over our Italian brands at 100 % Italian basta
Tonio, es muy acertado lo tu explicación o respuesta. Así lo pense desde el primer momento que lo vi circulando por la calle. No me gusta nada. Cómo proporciones bonitas y únicas es el Stelvio.
Un salufo
I don't agree with you at all - on the contrary, the tonale takes up the brand's old styles on different models and sells well - it's profitable - the brand expected just a little more, but unlike the compass and other vehicles in this size category, the tonale is clearly the most comfortable and sporty of many of them.
I do love what Alfa are doing with the grill, its no longer a copy & paste, with each model having its own design. But its going to take a lot more than a new grill & bumper to make Tonale relevant again. Sadly it suffered the same fate as all recent Alfa, we have the market introduction, sales are good for one year & then fall off.
Wann wird Hr. Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos entlassen?
Without a petrol engine this will fail.
In black, it's more harmonious, thanks to the black rocker panels, rear bumper and wheel arches. They should be painted body color. But this restyling, if it's faithfully rendered by Autopareri, is just plain wrong in my opinion.
The restyling may improve the Tonale, the old-fashioned Scudetto is not bad, but what's really needed are more exciting engines.
I have a Stelvio but I don't like SUVs. I'm looking forward to a hypothetical new Giulia or Giulietta, but as a sedan. Otherwise, I'll switch to Audi or BMW.
Exactly! Mr Tonio.
I'd be interested in the new one, which I assume will be more balanced in its lines...... but only in high-performance diesel.
They're going to use black lacquered plastic with holes like cheap Peugeot Junior. Great PSA.
I love my Tonale, but not enough dealer network in the UK, a real issue when the service is every 9000 miles and my nearest dealer is 70 miles away.
Not enough dealer networks in the UK. Service every 9000 miles workouts out expensive
My local UK dealer is 70 miles away which is an inconvenience. Really nice car to drive and over 50mpg fuel economy on my HYBRID 1.5
Turns lots of heads. Alfa is a marque and not a brand as I keep telling people
So their solution to lift sales of a failing model is to graft a more angular nose onto what is quite a curvaceous body. To my eyes that's a mess. This down-road-graphic still doesn't align with the Junior (resembling neither the Leggenda mesh nor Progresso plate style Scudettos), nor does it match those of the Giulia or Stelvio, and this grille doesn't look like a 159 either (19 years later why would it?). It appears there's (modern) Stradale-like profiling to the vanes of that Scudetto giving it some more depth and interest.
I have a tonale hybrid.....I find it SUPER...comfort,visual,different,reliability.....nothing to say,; it's been 2 years since I bought this car, no regrets,
we'll see about the next models, I trust ALFA ROMEO to continue to please me.
