Alfa Romeo 8C and 8C Spider increase in value: new auction record!

A few days ago, we told you about two exceptional Alfa Romeo 8Cs up for auction A 2008 8C Competizione coupé and a 2009 8C Spider, both with virtually zero mileage - 16 and 30 km respectively. True "time capsules", preserved for over fifteen years in a private Californian museum, they represented a unique opportunity for collectors.

The sale has just been completed, and the result is clear: the two models Alfa Romeo broke records. The 8C Spider sold for $400,000 after 25 bids, while the 8C Competizione reached $360,000 after 61 bids. Amounts that not only confirm the growing interest of collectors, but also mark a new stage in the history of the 8C.

A new record for the 8C Spider

It's the Spider that offers the biggest surprise. Never before has an Alfa Romeo 8C Spider fetched such a price at auction. Up to now, values have been well below this: 250,000 $ for a 3,500 km model in August 2024, 325,000 $ for a 330 km Spider in April 2023, and 375,000 $ for a Spider with only 1,500 km in the same year. Now, with 400,000 $ and in "ex-factory" condition, this 8C Spider becomes the most expensive example in the model's history.

Coupé side: price stability

For the 8C Competizione, the result is equally impressive, but more logical in view of its history. The example sold at 360,000 $ is positioned at the upper end of the market, without however surpassing the absolute record of 375,000 $ achieved in March 2023 for a 2,200 km 8C. Other recent sales illustrate this: 332,000 $ in June 2025 for an 8C with 5,400 km, or 277,000 $ in February 2024 for a 4,000 km model. The trend is therefore clear: the price of low-mileage 8C coupes remains stable and solid, at around $300,000 to $370,000.

A modern icon making its mark on the market

These results confirm what many had suspected: the Alfa Romeo 8C is now firmly established in the circle of modern automotive collectors' icons. Its design, its exclusivity (only 500 coupés and 500 spiders produced), and above all its 4.7-liter V8 shared with Maserati and Ferrari make it a centerpiece of any prestigious collection.

But should we preserve these 8Cs as mechanical works of art, or dare to unleash the bewitching sound of the V8 on the road? Whatever the case, the sale of these two examples is a reminder that, almost twenty years after their launch, the 8C Competizione and Spider have lost none of their seductive power...
